Photo du Jour: Update

As a kid, the only thing I liked more than "Unsolved Mysteries" was an "Unsolved Mysteries: Update!", a segment they'd air when they'd found a missing person or helped catch a criminal, or learned that a guy thought to have spontaneously combusted just had a broken A/C.

Now it's my turn.

My two or three frequent readers may remember my entry from March 21, which included a photo of this man:

Turns out it's a man named Hamish Bowles, the European Editor at Large for Vogue. I saw him in a slide show just now and recognized his wristwatch.

I was putting on socks for tonight's photo stroll when inspiration struck.

Well, at least the inspiration to not leave my apartment. I'm not a self-portrait kinda guy. But I thought I'd do my best Elinor Carucci impression:

On a chair on a balcony with the camera held overhead. In the end, it's a little too busy, but I give myself an E for effort.

I posted more photos on Flickr.

A Baroque dance class at the Mark Morris Dance Center in Brooklyn:

I will be very disappointed if the Daily News headline does not contain a Baroque-dancing/break-dancing pun.

When I got the assignment I was hoping they'd be in period regalia. Alas, that wasn't the case. The most visually unique part of the scene was the violinist.

I'll post a few more on Flickr soon.

Seaburn Books in Astoria is the only independently owned bookstore in western Queens.

I have a habit of emphasizing structure over people in my pictures. The downside of this is that these photos probably won't see print in the Daily News. Today I kept this in mind, at least for a moment:
